Ok, so from my research I found a few things to deal with Red and Greek.
– There is a tradition where a bride would wear a red veil, that some greeks still hold today.
– In greek mythology Red roses are a symbol of growth and decay. but also for love and affinity.
– In Greece easter eggs are dyed Red for luck.
My guess is the second one. It is to symbolize growth, decay, love, and affinity.
The first national flag of Greece, adopted in 1822, was red with a white cross.
